“Wow!” Walks with God

Wow! What a majestic, glorious, beautiful God.

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. (NIV) Psalm 65:8

It is that time of year when we wake up to crisp, fresh air, colorful trees, and morning mist. This Fall has given us a beautiful display of colors. Observing nature’s majesty provokes a feeling of awe: that sense of wonder when we encounter a mountain ablaze with color, a towering tree, or the scope of stars in a night sky—and feel small by comparison. However, even the smallness of a single leaf with veins turned to gold, a round rock with a hole right through the middle, or a large moth with eyes on its wings can cause the same sense of wonder—a feeling that
actually changes the human brain. It fills us with a sense of awe. Being awestruck can bring a host of benefits, from boosting creativity to lowering stress to making us nicer people. Awe has been hard-wired into our brains by our Creator.

I believe every little thing you see in nature is consistently screaming look at us; I am so intricately made; I am too glorious to have just happened. There must be a Master Sculptor. There must be a Master Painter. There must be a Creator behind all this beauty.

While out in nature, have you ever thought about all the detail God put into everything He created? He put nutrients in the soil in which our food grows. If He has a specific purpose for dirt, imagine the purpose He has for each one of us. Each piece of produce God created, He made with intention. He made walnuts with serotonin to enhance our happiness, oranges with vitamin C to boost our immunity, and eggs with Vitamin B to improve our muscles. He created water to cleanse us, promote brain function, and increase energy.

God’s presence surrounds you. He created the world to point us to Him. Go outside and DELIGHT in the details our Maker has put into His creations. Fall is a time when it is easy to see God’s beauty in creation. Our world’s predictable seasons and trustworthy laws of nature reveal wisdom in its design. The wisdom of creation we see is explained in the Bible we read. God’s wisdom we see in creation should inspire us to trust Him for what we cannot see.

So today, when you are out and about, just look around you. Find the beauty in the smallest of things and realize that the awesome creation demands we trust the Creator. Even when it makes no sense to our brains.

In our limited perspective, we can find it easy to doubt God’s ways of running the universe (or our lives). But if we really believe the Lord Jesus Christ is the wisest man who ever lived, we will do whatever He says. Not because we understand but precisely because we don’t.

My Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the immense beauty of Your creation. What a delight it is to see Your glory on display through plants, rocks, and animals. I pray it will point us to You. Turn our hearts and minds to You. Instill in us a child-like faith. May I learn more about Your character by studying the wonders and even the messages You leave for me in nature, and may I gain encouragement from what I discover.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.
