What if it’s True?

There’s a beautiful song by Nichole Nordeman called “What If” that inspired me to write this blog. The words touched my heart and made me think.

What if you’re right?
And He was just another nice guy
What if you’re right?
What if it’s true?
They say the cross
Will only make a fool of you
And what if it’s true?

But what if you’re wrong?
What if there’s more?
What if there’s hope
You never dreamed of hoping for?

What if you jump?
And just close your eyes
What if the arms that catch you
Catch you by surprise?
What if He’s more than enough?
What if it’s love?

Think about that for a moment. What if you were to live your life with faith in Christ, do good works, and live in love, but heaven did not exist? In the end, wouldn’t you still have lived a great life? A life of peace, love, and doing good to others? You would have God to pray to and feel He heard your deepest prayers. What would you have to lose?

But what if you lived the other way, a life of sin? Pleasing self, doing whatever you wanted regardless of any rules? You would live in strife, upset, lacking peace, nowhere to turn during some of life’s most difficult circumstances. What if in the end, there was a heaven, but you didn’t believe? You would have everything to lose! You would miss out on spending eternity with Jesus and your loved ones who believed in Him. You would miss out on the beauty of living in heaven where there is no sin. No pain. No suffering. No sickness.

You see, if you live in faith and believe in Jesus, you have nothing to lose. If you live a life of unbelief, you have “everything” to lose. When you become a Christian and have faith and believe in God, it does take time and spiritual experiences to find is who He says He is and to see Him move in your life and answer your prayers.

“Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

Still skeptical? Allow me to share a little bit about the Bible’s historical accuracy. Skeptics claim that many of the stories in the Bible have no historical foundation. These accusations are dismissed and abandoned as historical evidence has been found to prove the accuracy of the Bible. One of the stories frequently questioned in the Old Testament involves the city of Jericho. The account is an incredible story of faith and victory.

The Lord told Joshua that He delivered Jericho into his hands. He told Joshua to march around the city once with all the armed men and do it for six days. The Lord said in Joshua 6:4-5, “Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams horn’s in front of the Ark of the Covenant. On the 7th day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.” Verse 5 says, “When you hear a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse, and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”

In the 1930s, archaeologists made an incredible find. As they were digging in the sand, they discovered the ancient city of Jericho. An archaeologist found that the walls fell outward so perfectly, that the attackers were able to climb up and over the ruins into Jericho. Typically, during an invasion, the walls should have fallen inward, yet the walls of Jericho fell outward precisely as recorded in scripture.

Archaeologist William F Albright stated, “Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of the innumerable details and has brought increased recognition to the value of the Bible as a source of history.” You can research the Bible’s fulfilled prophecies, biblical history, and accuracy, and you will find that it is all true. In the movie “The Case for Christ,” Lee Strobel, a self-proclaimed atheist, tried to disprove the existence of God and failed. His findings turned him into a believer in Jesus Christ.

So, what if there is more? There is, and His name is Jesus! Jesus is waiting for you to give you “more” of Him. All He wants is your heart. He wants you to believe in Him. He is that “more” that we all long to know. He wants you to spend eternity with Him. All you need to do is seek Him today and give Him your heart.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me that you are the “more” that my heart longs for. I believe in you and surrender my heart to You. I want all that you desire to give me: forgiveness, freedom, peace, love, joy, and eternal life in Christ. In Jesus name, amen.
