As I look forward to our upcoming conference in February, I can’t help but think about the title “Trust God”.  Sitting on my couch, I see subtle reminders of how I trusted God in the placement of our son Brody at The Learning Tree. Brody has Fragile X, Autism, SPD, ADHD and vision/hearing loss. Our recently bought furniture has an “X” in the design to serve as a reminder that he is still with us even though he lives away from home full time.

Brody was placed in a group home and began attending a state-run school for children like him when he was 12.  That was the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my life – to let someone else take care of his health, his well-being, his livelihood, his happiness, his education, his EVERYTHING.

Three years later, I continue to see the results of trusting God.  Brody is potty-trained, wears his shoes appropriately, walks everywhere he goes, and is a part of the community.  He has made a difference in the lives of so many people.  He is the bright spot of one man’s day and the reason he keeps going to work.

I see Brody happier today than when he was at home. I realize now that I was part of his challenge.  I did things for him that he now does for himself.  My part of trusting God was to get out of his way.

I would encourage you to trust God and that still small voice you hear when the decision is just too big for you to make.

“In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.” Psalm 25:1, NIV
