I have to admit I have had a really hard time writing this blog this week. If I am totally honest, I am really struggling on many levels right now.
In times of struggle, we can look and move toward our Savior or we can look to ourselves and be overwhelmed by feelings and fear. Proverbs 3:5-6 New International Version (NIV): 5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (a)
There is a popular contemporary Christian song that says “He is God of the Hills and the Valleys” and I would say that He is also the God of Transitions! Many of us find ourselves in that place of Transition, where what we have known and loved is changing to something that we don’t know and fear: Life without our parents, retirement, a new job, an empty nest, a spouse, or a child with a terminal illness.
Much of life and of our Christian walk is about managing transitions well. But naturally, we struggle with any transition- good or bad. And yet, the One who is constant throughout every age and stage of our life, who promises to make “our paths straight” (even the ones we have never walked before) also promises to “never leave us or forsake us”. When we are helpless, hopeless, and afraid – He is there!
Today I pray that we can put ourselves in the hands of the God of “the Hills and the Valleys” and the Transitions of life and allow Him to make sense of our ever-changing situations!
