“The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:28-31

As a retired high school teacher, I always breathe a prayer and a sigh of relief as the new school year begins. My prayer is for all those involved with the education of our children and my sigh of relief is because I no longer carry the weight of the responsibility the job on my life.

All the supplies have been purchased, classrooms have been readied, plans have been formulated and anxiousness abounds. The new school year awaits, and we are armed and ready for whatever the year will bring. I know that countless hours have been logged by both the educators, support staff and parents in the preparations for this new year but I am challenging all who read this blog to join me in praying for our schools as this year begins. I am asking you to commit to setting aside a block of time every week and dedicate yourself to pray in these specific areas:

  • Protection – I think we can all agree that this is of the utmost importance in our nation.
  • Provision – God is the Provider in all we do and say – learning to recognize it is own us!
  • Promotion – May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans. Psalm 20:4. No matter what you are doing, do what you can to prepare, we work diligently but the reward for it is in God’s time and His way.
  • Perseverance – Us learning to endure no matter what the trial or difficulty.

“Our Most Gracious Heavenly Father,
For all the children. teachers, leaders and support staff, send Your Holy Spirit as guide and protector. Keep them free from danger and place a hedge of safety around them. Guard them against anxious and fearful thoughts.

Lord, we ask that You provide them strength and grace as they grow in wisdom, knowledge, and character. Give them a double-portion of zeal and encouragement. Keep them in Your perfect peace each new day. Help them stay focused and grant them favor as the year unfolds. Help all involved to overcome any obstacle or challenge in every aspect of their life.

Bless them in mind, body, and soul. I pray they stay healthy and that You bless them with patience and perseverance when the days seem long. May they be strong and courageous in their actions toward others and help them stand firm in their faith. Father help them be kind and understanding, not arrogant or rude. May they always rejoice in Your truth and enable them to endure in all things. May their hearts and their words be pleasing to You.

In the name of Jesus Christ,  AMEN!”

As parents and community supporters we cannot be there with them, but we can pray and place them into the complete, unchanging, infinite hand of God. We can trust Him to always be there. We can trust that our almighty God is watching over all of them because He will never leave them or forsake them. (Heb. 13:5) As this year begins, let us send them securely wrapped in the Lord’s arms with an abundance of favor and blessings heaped upon them one and all.
