Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at a ladies’ conference. The theme was ” The Hand of God.” As I prayed and asked the Lord to lead me in what to share, so many wonderful scriptures came to mind. So many miraculous events, that God’s hand was revealed by His active presence, mighty power, reigning authority, supernatural guidance, heavenly protection, and divine intervention in human affairs.
We learned that He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites as they walked on dry ground, and then drowned the Egyptians and their chariots as they were trying to capture them. He led the Israelites with a cloud by day and fire by night. He fed them in the wilderness for 40 years, with manna from heaven and quail that fell to the ground. Their clothes didn’t get old, nor did their feet swell throughout the years of wandering. He gave them water from a rock, caused the wall of Jericho to fall, and defeated their enemies as they entered the promised land. So many times the Bible would state that, “He did it for His name’s sake.”
Joshua 4:20 says, “That the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that He is mighty and fear Him forever.”
The prophet Isaiah asked, “To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed and who has believed our report?” I can personally say His arm has been revealed to me in so many astounding and miraculous ways. He will make himself known.
As I reflect on my nearly “3 score and 10 years,” so many times God has intervened in my life with provision, protection, and healing. I recall an incident about a year ago, when my dear friend Dana and I had been shopping and driving home from Atalla. We were laughing, just having the best time, when suddenly, across the four-lane highway, a car was speeding at a high rate of speed. The car lost control and started flipping high in the air, falling above the hood of my car.
Dana screams, “Stop!!” Thankfully, I slowed down as we saw the car flying above our front windows. We both were bracing for impact when we witnessed, as it seemed, the hand of God move that car to the right bumper of my vehicle and land on its side, then slide down a field at rapid speed, never touching us!! We later learned the people in that car survived. We were both amazed and so thankful we were protected, and knew without a doubt God had saved us. I still shudder at what could have taken place had not God protected us. I am still so very thankful.
Another very special personal moment in my life was in 2020 during COVID. So much disease, so much death. The Bible speaks of end times and things that will occur. I personally feel COVID is among those events. One particular day in October, a few days before our son Zack’s adoption day celebration (he had passed away in May 2019), I learned a dear friend had died of COVID.
I was still in deep grief; it had just been a year and a half since Zack had passed, so I was struggling greatly that day. I received the news that she had died early that morning. I went to put coffee on, and I said Lord, I really need to hear from you today! As I was running water at the kitchen sink, I gazed out the window and noticed a little leaf just whirling in the air. I didn’t think anything about it then, so I set the pot on the coffee maker and went to the living room, turned on the news, and waited for my coffee to perk.
As I went to pour myself a cup, it had been 10 minutes by now, I glanced out my window again, and noticed that the little leaf was still just whirling in the air. This caught my attention, and I thought, “Oh, it must be snagged on a spider’s web, so I put my coffee down, went outside, and walked under that little leaf. There was no web, there was no wind, yet that little leaf was whirling above my head. I went to get my camera, took a picture, and then woke my husband up so he could see it.
I asked him, “Do you see that? It’s been whirling for over 10 minutes, with no wind, nothing to hold it up.” As he scratches his head, suddenly a big gust of wind blows it away. I told him I was so glad he was a witness, because I really feel the Lord gave me a moment, a Godwink, when I asked to hear from him in my sorrow. I went and got my Bible and found this scripture in Job 30:22:
“Thou lifted me up to the wind thou causeth me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.”
What a sweet reminder that He carries us away after our life is dissolved. Our flesh may be gone, but that spirit is lifted up.
God’s hand can be in the huge parting of the Red Sea, or in the voice of a cloud or by fire at night, or it can be in the suttle, little personal moments, with just you and him to encourage you so that you will be reminded that He will never leave you or forsake you, that He will be with you always even till the end of the world.
Recently, my husband shared a prayer request with me, and we prayed, asking for God’s leadership. In a few weeks, that desire became so miraculously confirmed in our lives that we have stood amazed in the presence of the hand of God. We are so grateful and so humbled by what He has done.
What we realize more in our walk every day is that it might not be in the wind, might not be in the rain; it could just be in the still, small voice of God that His hand is revealed.
I read this quote once that stated,
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.”
Look for him, seek him, knock, and it will open! God’s hand is not slack concerning his promises.
