Sickness is not fun! If you have lived on this earth very long, you have encountered illness from time to time. When we have an infection, we are not ourselves. Weakness, discomfort, and other unpleasant things tend to accompany being sick. To put it plain and simple: sickness is awful!

The sickness I mentioned above was a physical one, but what about “spiritual sickness”?  When sin enters our lives, it causes a spiritual infection. Think about it! Do you feel spiritually healthy when there is something between you and God? I know I don’t! I tend to become withdrawn and downright miserable.  Sometimes we don’t even realize our condition is so grave. We can become so used to the sin-sick selves that we accept this way of living, and we don’t even know we can be healed!

I can think of many things that can bring a spiritual infection. Unforgiveness, disobedience, hatred, trusting in a substance or a personal relationship to find worth, materialism, anger, etc. The list of things that we have allowed to enter our lives goes on and on. Sometimes we are aware of how they don’t belong and allow them in, and other times we are exposed to them inadvertently, and they have infected us. Either way, they don’t belong in the life of a believer in Christ!  We will never experience the healing of these things that infect us until we seek healing from the only one who can heal. His name is JESUS!

In Romans 6:12-13 scripture tells us, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires. And do not offer any parts of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness.”

You see, we must offer every part of “us” to God so that we are not living with a spiritual infection. When we come with a repentant heart, Jesus can cleanse us and use us as the clean vessel He desires us to be. He came to give us abundant life in Him, not for us to be slaves to sin!

My prayer today is this: everyone overwhelmed by the infection of sin would see that Jesus is the antidote  -“the cure” for whatever has plagued you!!

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  1 John 1:9
