Driving home from Indiana back to Alabama after a funeral of a wonderful woman, a conversation we had at Thanksgiving came to mind. She had asked me what I normally do on the long drives when I am alone and have no one to talk to. She was surprised, and I believe when I told her most of the time, I have a running dialogue with Jesus.
I listen to praise and worship music, sometimes louder than it should be. My way of trying to drown out my horrible singing voice, but hey, it is for HIM, so to HIM, it’s beautiful right? That is what I tell myself anyways. And then, sometimes, I have my own personal dance party.
Talking to Jesus on my 7.5-hour drive calms me. To be honest, HE has a captive audience; I mean, where am I going, right? And when I think HE needs a break from me complaining or asking for the world, I will turn up the music to praise HIM.
This is not just on long drives; this could totally be on the way to the grocery store etc.
Prayer time is not always on your knees; you go to HIM when you need to. It can look like whatever you need it to be.
HE gets to hear all the ins and outs of my daily life, and no one is there to distract me. I still, sometimes, find myself looking for distractions for avoidance. HE sees me, and I know it. I feel ashamed of thoughts, actions, and words that have come out of my mouth. To be honest, HE already knows, but me speaking my sins is raw and hurtful. Most of the time, I speak in whispers. Yet, when I have confessed, I feel refreshed and new. Only HE can take all this away from me. I can only imagine what a mess I must be when people see me driving, talking to myself, and tears pouring down my face. Now that’s a sight.
I am humbled that HE wants a personal relationship with me. And HE wants that with you as well.
What is your prayer life like? Do you go to HIM regularly?
My prayer for you is that your relationship with Jesus is the most important relationship in your life. If your prayer life is not as strong as you might like it to be, Just start talking. HE wants it all. Not just the big things. ALL OF IT.
Draw near to HIM.
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
HIS Will
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Phillippians 4:19
Life is not just about me.
“My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.” John 17:15
Peace and Comfort
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
Forgiveness
“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.” Psalm 86:5
Thanks and Praise
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” James 1:17
“Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
forever and ever.
Amen.”
