Listen to God’s Nudging

Recently, God spoke to me and told me to read the chapter of Nehemiah. I had no idea why at the time. I was actually studying Isaiah, and the Holy Spirit nudged me to change course for a while and study Nehemiah.

About two years ago, God put a ministry on my mind, but because of health problems, I have not been able to follow through with this ministry. I never felt healthy enough to follow that nudging. I also went through the “I am not worthy, I am not smart enough, I need to study the Bible more, I may not be the right leader” and so many more doubts. But you know how God is; His nudging never stops!!

So I listened to the Holy Spirit and started reading Nehemiah. The chapter starts with him leading the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a prayer, planner, and producer. Nehemiah enlisted the help of mighty men and got “all his ducks in a row” before even traveling to Jerusalem to start the rebuilding. There, with prayer, he enlisted the help of nearly all the people. He had prayer abounding, supplies ready, and laborers on call. The Mighty Wall was rebuilt in only fifty-two days.

Now I know why God sent me to Nehemiah. He knows the ministry in my heart just like he knew the ministry in Nehemiah’s heart. But God showed me the difference between Nehemiah and myself. I was not ready, and I had to admit that. Also, I was sitting around lamenting about how I could not do what was on my heart, and Nehemiah (with focused prayer) just went to work. I had to admit …… “I got it, God, I got it loud and clear.” God was telling me to prepare because His work will always be accomplished, one way or another.

I am praying for my ministry now. This is the first step in God’s nudging. If God wants this ministry to happen,

  1. He will send great people to help me,
  2. He will keep me focused, and
  3. He will make sure that I am doing this for His glory alone.

If God does not want this particular ministry, I still know that God wants me to pray, plan and produce something else for Him, my precious Father.

Listen to God’s nudging…….many people call this the Holy Spirit talking !!!

15When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, LORD,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, LORD, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” 17The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “LORD, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” John 21: 15-17
