Alarm clock screaming. Bare feet hit the floor.
It’s off to the races, everybody out the door.
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind. It’s a crazy life!
Ninety miles an hour, going fast as I can.
Trying to push a little a little harder.
Trying to get the upper hand.
So much to do in so little time. It’s a crazy life.
It’s ready, set, go! It’s another wild day!
When the stress is on the rise in my heart, I feel You say,
“Breathe! Just breathe! Come and rest at My feet and be. Just be.
Chaos calls, but all you really need is to just breathe!”
If you listen to Christian radio you know these lyrics from the song Breathe, sung by Johnny Diaz. If you have a heartbeat you’ve lived these lyrics for more than a day.
What peace we find even in the hurry when we take the time to let God set the tone for the day. We schedule most of our day’s minutes, so why not devote the first ones of the day to Him. In return, He helps us focus so we can prioritize with His schedule in mind.
I’ve lived the hurried lifestyle without putting God first. It resulted in a stressed out woman who set a stressed out pace for her family. These days are just as busy, but not nearly so stressed. Yes, I sometimes forget things – like when it’s my turn to write this blog post! But God has blessed with patient friends who give me grace. Breathing in God’s Word first thing inflates my peace to sustain me throughout the day. But heaven help us all when I let the things of this world take my breath away.
This week when that alarm clock screams, take a deep breath, and sit at Jesus’ feet for a few of those precious minutes. Oh, and don’t forget the coffee! Have a peaceful rest of the week!
