The question was asked,
“If Jesus walked into the room, what would your reaction be?”
As you can imagine, most answered with a variation of,
“Run to Him.”
However, my first thought was not at all what I expected. Instead, it was to stay in the back corner where I was sitting and wait for him to find me. Why, just why was this my first reaction? This shook me, as I consider my relationship with Him to be the most important in my life. So again, I asked myself, why?
I am the background person. I am never front and center. Never call attention to me. If we are not close or I do not feel secure sharing my thoughts with you, you do not get the full version of me; instead, you will receive a watered-down version.
But this was JESUS. Why would I not run to Him? He should be the One-and-only I always run to. That night when I returned home, I went to Him in prayer, asking Him. I listened, but no answer. Don’t you hate that when He just doesn’t come out and tell you? But he does, doesn’t He?
The next day, I received my answer. During my wait in a doctor’s office reception area, I overheard a conversation between two people. They were discussing how they were disgruntled with their church and how they didn’t even know if they believed anymore because of the way they were treated by the people of this church.
I sat quietly, listening. Then my heart told me to speak and to use my words very carefully. I started off by apologizing for intruding. I spoke slowly and softly with love and understanding, as I represent Christ I spoke of HIS love, His grace, His mercy, His death, and His resurrection. I continued with, we are nothing but a dirty rag compared to Him and unfortunately act like those dirty rags, and we do not always reflect Christ.
Once I started speaking of Jesus, I could not stop, and we had a nice talk. When their names were finally called, they asked if they could hug me and then thanked me for intruding and speaking love into them that day as one of them was awaiting test results, and they needed to hear of His love. I sat there for a few minutes praying that the results were good and praised God for giving me the strength and opportunity to share about His Son.
“…and for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” Ephesians 6:19-20
While speaking with my Father, I was reminded,
“LOVE IS OUR TRADEMARK.”
“As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34b-35
Later the evening, I asked myself the same question from the night before What would I do if Jesus walked into the room? Immediately, I said, “Run to HIM!”
I was released of the bondage of speaking the truth and the one and only Good News.
Are you sitting in the corner? Sister, it is a much better view when you are free of chains and able to speak boldly of Jesus.
“…so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11
My prayer for all of us is that we never cower to our fear to seek and speak of Jesus to one and all. Whether it is with strangers or a friend, we all need JESUS.
