When I was a little girl, I was saved at the age of nine years old. I fell in love with this man, Jesus! I just knew it wouldn’t be long, and He would part the eastern sky, blow the trumpet, and take all of us who believe in Him home for all eternity. So here I sit, eagerly waiting.
My mama used to tell me to “live every day as if it were my last.” What did that mean, actually? It meant living according to God’s commandments, accepting Jesus into my heart, telling the lost about Jesus, and eagerly waiting for His return.
One-third of the Bible contains prophecies about the second coming of Jesus Christ. So this tells us that, well, it’s pretty important. It’s also pretty exciting!
Philippians 3:20 says,
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, Jesus Christ.”
On that glorious day, our faith will become sight, when our Jesus, we shall see! Not only see Him but be made like Him and be with Him throughout eternity!
As I see the darkness in this world, I know from the scriptures that Jesus’ return is soon. So that tells me to live every day as if it is my last and live it with eagerness and joy.
We spend our whole lives waiting. I do believe that it’s a part of our DNA! We wait and wait and wait some more. The question is, are we waiting eagerly or angrily?
When it comes to Jesus’ return, we just don’t know when that will be, but we are told that we will know the season. There is a homesick feeling inside all of us who serve the One True Living God. We have this homesick feeling for the return of Jesus Christ. This same feeling is supposed to be something that motivates us to live every day, believing that Jesus will return. This earth is but a second citizenship –our true citizenship is in heaven.
So how do we eagerly wait for the return of Jesus and know that we are saved? Let’s look at 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10; the believers in Thessalonica stopped worshiping idols, turned to God, and were born again. In every place they went, they impacted their community for Christ. That’s how we eagerly await. If we sit around scared, hide from the world, and ignore the lost, we will wait angrily. We won’t be waiting as a bride for her Bridegroom; then His return will catch us off guard as a thief in the night. We don’t want to be ashamed when He returns; we want to be ready! We should be adorning ourselves in love, walking in righteousness, getting rid of idols in our lives, sharing Jesus with the lost, and remaining expectant because Jesus is coming back soon.
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming:
“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
