Construction zones don’t typically bring out the best in us. They can be frustrating if we are in a hurry, and it might just start our day off on a rough note if it happens to makes us late. But construction is necessary. Even though we don’t like it, when it’s finished, we love it, and we are glad it is over! The results are far better than what preceded it.
The construction signs, delays, and rerouting had to take place for the roads to be free of wear and tear, potholes, and erosion. Same holds for our lives. We must undergo construction to become who God has created us to be. Do you ever feel like your life is one big construction zone? Torn apart, rerouting, and eroding? Sometimes I should wear a shirt that says, “Warning! This girl is under construction,” or “Danger! Do not approach until red lights stop flashing.” Or perhaps: “Danger! Construction area: authorized personnel only!”
We have to allow God to be the foreman over our broken down lives. We have to embrace the construction He puts us under to become the woman He created us to be.
The word construction means building, forming, creation, or the making of something. We are all under construction as believers in Christ, being transformed into His likeness. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “And we who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the spirit.” God transforms us by his grace. We come to the Lord in our weakness, our inability, our sin, and our failure. We choose to believe His love and ability to change us as we rest in His grace. The results are beautiful. We have the Holy Spirit to guide us through all the changes and all the construction in our lives.
We must surrender to the One who knows us best and wants what is best for us. These construction zones in our lives must happen, and the only way through them is to lean on Jesus throughout all of life’s construction periods. He is the One who can sustain us when our lives feel like they are falling apart.
We are not meant to carry burdens all alone. Jesus tells us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened, and He will give us rest. If we “really” want to be transformed, we have to give it all to the Lord, not just the portions we want to give to Him…all of it! He has to be the foreman over every part of our lives.
John 16:33: “I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
James 1:2-4: “Count it all joy my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
Well, now that scripture makes trials worth it! Friend, we serve such an awesome God. He wants the very best for us; we should give him the wheel.
Hebrews 12:2: “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Yeah, he’s pretty amazing to love us that much to die on the cross for us! So we can certainly give ourselves entirely to Him. To allow Him full reign over our lives; to transform us from glory to glory. Thank God for His grace! Thank Him for bringing you through those significant construction areas of your life. He is right beside you every step of the way, knowing your heart’s desires and giving you a life full of joy. He wants you to go through this life filled with his peace and joy so that others can see Jesus in you!
