A few days ago, I was cleaning in the kitchen, and a new song came on. I LOVED IT. By loved it, I mean I set it on repeat and listened to it for no less than 30 minutes straight while I danced and bounced my precious new baby. The whole song was great, but the chorus really hit me. It said,

“Oh, What a beautiful life,
What a time to be alive,
What a time to be alive,
It doesn’t mean it’s always gonna feel alright,
But it’ll be a gift if you hold it right…”

That’s good stuff.

I feel like all we hear now on social media, the news, and even conversations with each other are all of the terrible, awful things going on in this world. We need a reminder that there are still good things going on. The Lord is still working miracles; He is still moving in people’s hearts, and He is still giving us precious gifts. This song reminds us to be grateful for the life the Lord has given us.

But those precious gifts wouldn’t be as sweet if we didn’t also experience the loss that happens in this fallen world. That’s where the second part of the chorus comes in: “It doesn’t mean it’s always going to feel alright,” because it won’t. But, if we can remember that God has a plan for us that includes those hard times, we will be able to see there is a gift that comes from them. It may not be today, tomorrow, or in 10 years, but God has written a beautiful story for every one
of us. That’s how we will see that “it’ll be a gift if you hold it right.”

Additionally, the bridge of this song alludes to Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, which explains that there is a time for everything under the sun. The song says,

“A time for weeping
A time for laughing
A time to reap
A time to sow
A time for dancing
A time for dying
A time for living…”

This is just another reminder that we will have good times and bad times in our lives, but it’s a reminder to be grateful for the beautiful life God has given us. A reminder to trust Him and the story He is writing for all of us. Let us be that positive light for those around us who talk about and are grateful for the blessings without hiding the crappy things that go on in our lives because we know God has a plan for us, and that plan is greater than anything we could
imagine.

The rest of the song is just as amazing and is a reminder that I think we all need to be grateful. Here are the rest of the lyrics to the song “A Beautiful Life” by Pat Barrett and Caín. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and blare it in your kitchen as you dance with your children, husband, or with yourself because we have been given A BEAUTIFUL LIFE.

“Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life

Every day is a gift from God
Even ones that have left their scars
So don’t waste another moment
But you don’t know what you got until it’s gone, yeah
I’m not gonna let one pass me by, no
I know I’m living on borrowed time
We’re not guaranteed tomorrow
Just promised what we have will be enough, yeah
So everywhere I look has got me singing

Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life
What a time to be alive
What a time to be alive
It doesn’t mean it’s always gonna feel alright
But it’ll be a gift, if you hold it right
Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life

I’ve come too far just to turn back now, yeah
I’ve seen too much just to turn it all around
Not waiting for tomorrow
‘Cause there’s a miracle of Heaven here and now, yeah
So everywhere I look has got me singing

Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life
What a time to be alive
What a time to be alive
It doesn’t mean it’s always gonna feel alright
But it’ll be a gift, if you hold it right
Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life

A time for weeping
A time laughing
A time to reap
A time to sow
A time for dancing
A time for dying
A time for living
It doesn’t mean it’s always gonna feel alright
But it’ll be a gift, if you hold it right

Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life
Yes, it is
What a time to be alive
What a time to be alive
It doesn’t mean it’s always gonna feel alright
But it’ll be a gift, if you hold it right
Oh, what a beautiful life
Oh, what a beautiful life.”
