I guess we all remember the famous television show “Big Bang Theory.” I  was hesitant at first to watch, but soon tuned in and realized they were not hammering down the big bang theory of creation in every episode. But there was a main character (Sheldon) who let his belief be known that he did not believe in God. This was all done in a comedic way.

But even among Christians today, there is sometimes a skepticism of the  Biblical history of creation and mankind. I have to admit there have been times in the past when I wondered, “Is there really this big God in heaven beyond the clouds that created all that I know?”

The Big Bang theory was discovered in the 1920s when the theory of swirling gases and dust compressing in the atmosphere, and big pieces of  “rock” and elements banging into each other and adhering together, making planets. The theory also includes the heating and cooling of these elements, forming the Earth’s layers. But the biblical theory of creation centers around one entity… our one and only God.

In Genesis, the plan for the earth’s creation is laid out simply and elegantly.  Did God just throw rocks together and use a little pressure to create this thing called Earth? No, God is a planner. He was working before, during, and after creation, preparing this planet for His people, us. This planet was created to sustain us and grow us into servants for him. Need proof?

A book written by Philip Yancey and Dr. Paul Brand (Fearfully and  Wonderfully Made) states:

  • 100,000,000 cells have developed from 1 fertilized ovum,
  • The eye alone consists of 107,000,000 cells,
  • One gram of  DNA contains 215 million gigabytes of data (1,000,000 times more than the average storage capacity of a computer),
  • 1000 books containing 600 or more pages each would be required to store the information in your DNA.

Friends, we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)! No banging of rocks and replicating the intricate makings of our human bodies, this plentiful earth, and our loving souls. There is no soul in rocks!  Yes, there is a majestic, omniscient God! All knowing and all loving.

This earth, our bodies, the plant life, the marine life, and the animal life were all created by God’s detailed planning. It is called the cycle of life, and we are the blessed recipients of His knowledge and grace. Lastly, God is the Father of love…He loves us with a depth we cannot fathom. He will never leave or forsake us. Won’t you come to Him and give your heart to  Him? He died for you!

Genesis 1:1. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…
