I’ve never really been someone who sets New Year’s resolutions. Probably because of the rare times that I did, the goal or resolution was a bust by the end of January. This would usually lead to more disappointment and self-loathing, so I decided that wasn’t for me.

This doesn’t mean I don’t set goals anymore, but now my goals are more practical and realistic in nature.

The wiser I become, the more precious time seems. This sometimes harsh realization has allowed me to slow down, pause, and take in the uniqueness of each moment.

I take time to reflect on past mistakes but allow myself the freedom to rejoice in knowing those mistakes don’t define me or my future.

This season is a great opportunity to focus on God’s promises, embrace the renewing of our minds, and acknowledge the work He wants to do in our lives.

The Bible is filled with encouragement about renewal, hope, and moving forward in faith.

One of the greatest truths of the New Testament is found in 2 Corinthians 5:17:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

This verse is a beautiful reminder to us that in Christ, we are not bound by our past mistakes or failures. Through His grace, we are made new. As we enter the new year, we can leave behind the weight of guilt, regret, and fear and step confidently into the freedom Christ offers.

The Apostle Paul gives us a powerful example of moving forward in faith. In Philippians 3:13-14, he writes:

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Paul’s focus was not on his past—not the successes or the failures—but on the future God had prepared for him. We are called to have this same mindset. What do you need to release to fully embrace the plans God has for you? I could certainly name a few.

True transformation begins in our minds and hearts. Romans 12:2 encourages us:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

This year, I want to commit to renewing my mind daily through prayer, reading God’s Word, and seeking His guidance. By doing this, we align our thoughts with His truth and position ourselves to walk in His will, not our own. I don’t know about you, but my will is STRONG, so I have to be intentional about surrendering to God’s will for my life.

The start of a new year often brings excitement, but it can also bring uncertainty. During these moments, we can find comfort in Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ’plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

No matter what challenges we face, we can trust that God’s plans are good, His promises are true, and He is with us every step of the way.

Whatever your outlook on the new year, let’s remember that every day is an opportunity to grow closer to God and live out His purpose for our lives. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23), and His grace is sufficient for whatever lies ahead.

May this year be one of renewal, hope, and unwavering faith as we walk in the newness of life that Christ offers.
