Fear is a Liar

Here I sit on beautiful Hilton Head Island on the famous Sea Pines Resort Golf Course. We have seen deer in the backyard, alligators in the marshy ponds, and hanging moss in the trees. Paradise. My husband and I rented a large home with three other couples so the men could play golf on the world-famous course. Of course, the Sea Pines Golf Course ended up closed for maintenance! But there are other beautiful courses on the Island, so no worries; the men are happy.

But the heart of this blog is not the beauty of this place, not the golf courses that are picturesque.. but the fear inside of me. You would have thought I would have been so thrilled to be invited to be one of the four couples going on this dream vacation; I truly was.    But the devil always has to step in and try to ruin everything for me.

You see, the other three couples are very outgoing, well-known, and well-respected people in our community. Me? I am very shy. I was outgoing in my business, but in social situations, I stayed toward the back of the room.   The other three ladies are either school teachers or retired school teachers. They know everyone in the community! But me? I stayed at East Lake in my own little world in the feed mill business.

What do I have in common with these ladies? Will they visit about former or present school events and occurrences with which I am not familiar? Will they accept (me) as a person that is not involved in all the civic activities and local community affairs? Will I just end up another fly on the wall like I do in other social situations? Just what do we have in common?

Yesterday morning (upon leaving Guntersville), I had worked myself into a stupor and just really did not look forward to coming to this wonderful place. BUT THEN, GOD. What do I have in common with these ladies? They are wonderful Christian women who love the Lord, love the community, and (as I have found out) serve the community and the Lord in so many ways. The fear in me? The fear in me was from the devil, and we all know fear is a liar. Don’t let fear or shyness stop you from spending time with other Christians!!
