YOU CAN HAVE MY YES!
“You can have my yes with no exception
I’m laying down my rights to second guessing
You can have my yesI’m giving you my fear of never knowing
Whatever’s coming next, I know You’ve got me
You can have my yesYou’re the lamp, You’re the light
You’re the cloud that guides me
You’re the way, You’re the truth
You’re the life inside me
You conquered my fears
So I leave it all behind
I’m running to the light…”Excerpt from”Running to the Light” written by: Benjamin William Hastings, Michael Brandon Lake, Dante Bowe.
This fun little upbeat song brings such joy to my heart! Upon hearing the first verse, I loved it, and it hooked me! As I started singing with it, I said, “Yes, God! You can have my Yes… I’m giving You my YES!!!”
As I sat and pondered what that all meant, giving God my yes, I was happy that I meant what I said when I gave Him my first yes!
When I accepted Jesus into my heart as a nine-year-old girl, I didn’t realize that submitting to Him and giving Him my yes would be so incredible and life-changing! That was only the first step into an incredible journey with an awesome God!
So what does saying yes to God look like?
Salvation & Everlasting Life
The first yes to the Lord is accepting Him into our hearts as Lord and Savior of our lives. We say yes to His Holy Spirit now living inside us. We also receive eternal life. We are allowing Him to guide us through life’s ups and downs. To turn to Him and say, “God, I trust you know what’s best for me, and you will always watch over me. “
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Peace
When you say yes, you turn your burdens over to Him, and He carries them, which brings you peace.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.“ Matthew 11:28-30
We aren’t meant to carry burdens and worry about things we cannot control. We are meant to give them to God and pray about it. That is when we find peace.
Obedience
When we say yes to God, we should mean it. We should be people of our word and walk in integrity and truth.
“But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your yes be yes and your no be no, lest you fall into judgment.“ James 5:12
When we tell God yes, we are saying that we trust Him to direct our paths and our lives. We need to accept all that He walks us through. We are only human, and we are sure to step off the path, maybe even get lost a time or two, but God pursues us, and when we agree to get back on the path because we found out He truly does know what’s best, then we give Him our yes once again.
Let’s take a look at how saying yes to Jesus changed the trajectory of the lives of His disciples. When a couple of fishermen were fishing, Jesus walked up to them and said, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They said, “yes!” They were among the twelve who said yes to Jesus; not only did it set them on an adventure of a lifetime, it changed the world!
Saying yes to God in the small things can only be a foretaste of the greater and bigger things He has in store for each of us. So say yes to Him today. Yes, Jesus, I want You to come into my life and be my Savior. Yes, Lord, I want Your will and calling on my life to be fulfilled. Yes, Lord, I want a relationship with You, to pray, seek You, and know all about who You are. Yes, Lord, I will follow You, trust You, and walk in obedience to You all the days of my life.
You can have my YES!
