After several days filled with sad news, I found myself preoccupied with concern.  My prayer list overflows with the names of those in need.  Reports of sickness and death come almost daily.  I can hardly bear to watch a newscast because hate and unrest seem to blanket the world.  My heart surely ached as each dismal situation crossed my mind.

My thoughts were interrupted by music playing on the radio.  Sweet lyrics softly pierced my thoughts:

I see the evidence of Your goodness
All over my life, all over my life
I see Your promises in fulfillment
All over my life, all over my life… (Josh Baldwin, Evidence)

The Holy Spirit nudged me to look beyond the circumstances and back to our Lord.  Indeed we live in perilous times, but our relationship with God gives us peace.   The evidence of His goodness is everywhere, despite all the hard things we see in this present age.  Jesus personally assured us of His gift of peace:

“Peace I leave with youMy peace I give to youI do not give to you as the world givesYour heart must not be troubled or fearful.”  John 14:27 HCSB

God grants us “perfect peace” through His son, Jesus Christ.  He comforts us in every heartache and is faithful to walk with us every step of our journey.  His strength overcomes our weaknesses. Praise the Lord. He is our refuge:

” The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my Godmy mountain where I seek refugemy shield and the horn of my salvationmy stronghold. Psalm 18:2 HCSB

As I take each concern to the Throne of Grace in prayer, I hold tightly the reality that He is in control.  I trust Him, regardless of the situation.

Because of Jesus, we can rejoice even in the midst of difficult circumstances.  He is our Savior; victory is His.  The troubles of this time will seem small compared to the endless joy of eternity in His presence.

See the cross, the empty grave
The evidence is endless
All my sin rolled away
Because of You, oh, Jesus…  (Josh Baldwin, Evidence)

Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice on the cross and your victory over the grave.  You give us everything we need.  Help me never fail to see Your eternal goodness that overshadows this world’s temporary trials and problems. YOU are my perfect peace.
