Things are certainly not always as they seem. I recently read a story about the Golestan Palace in Tehran, Iran. It is made up of the most beautiful mosaics in the world. The ceilings and walls sparkle like diamonds. But it wasn’t an easy task to become that ornate and beautiful.

Originally, the architect ordered large sheets of mirrors for the walls from Paris. When the mirrors arrived, they were shattered and broken into pieces. The contractor threw the broken pieces into the trash. The architect ordered the broken pieces to be collected and then he smashed them into smaller pieces. He then glued them to the walls and ceilings to create the most stunning, beautiful mosaics ever seen. These broken and shattered pieces became beautiful in the eyes of the architect.

When we feel broken, shattered, and hopeless, that is when God can turn us into the most beautiful piece of art. We were not meant to be broken, feel useless, and cast aside. We were created by a loving Heavenly Father to shine brilliantly like diamonds for the world to see. We were created for His light to shine through us. Through all of our broken, shattered pieces. If we allow Him, He takes those pieces and puts them together and shines His light through them for all to see His perfect creation, which is you!

I have friends that are so gifted and talented, and the love of God shines brightly through them. Often, I find myself wondering and asking God, “What are my talents? Am I shining the light He has put inside me for the world to see?” When we humble ourselves before Him and ask Him to shine through us, through all our brokenness, He will. Not one of us has the same talent, gift, or brilliance as the other. We are all unique works of art created by the Maker of the Universe! The world may break us, shatter us, and render us useless, but God makes the broken beautiful.

God isn’t finished with us yet. In Ecclesiastes 3:11, it says “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Ask the Father to give you the eyes to see yourself as He sees you. Not in a prideful way, but through his loving, tender way. He loves you unconditionally and perfectly and He wants His light to shine through you so others will see this light and be led to Jesus.

When we walk in step with Him, we will walk in his perfect peace. So, when the storms of life hit, He helps us keep our peace. We can still shine knowing He is with us through all of life’s storms.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” God has His fingerprints all over you. He has created you in His own image. Though we may see and focus on our own flaws, God sees a beautiful, priceless work of art.

Prayer: “Heavenly Father, help us to see ourselves as you see us. Broken, yet beautiful, shattered, yet shining. Help us reflect the love of Jesus and be a light in this dark world that brings glory and honor to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
