Intentional
Intentional can be defined as: done on purpose; deliberate; willful; purposeful.
At the beginning of the year, I chose a word that I wanted to focus on through 2020. My word was intentional. I have spoken with many people about being intentional with my time, words, and actions. However, I really wanted to focus on being intentional with Jesus. Being intentional with my devotion to Him is the most important thing for me to do because if we are intentionally devoted to Jesus, then we are following Him, talking to Him, and, most importantly, leading others to Him.
The best example of an intentional life was that of Jesus. He was intentional with everything He did. He was intentional with how He prayed, the people he gathered with, the messages He taught everything He said and did was intentional for the kingdom of God. He knew His purpose, and that purpose immersed everything about Jesus. That is how we are to be -but it is not in our own power! 2 Corinthians 2:14-15 says we are the fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved. If we are to be the fragrance of Christ, then we must live intentionally in an intimate relationship with Jesus, following Him as closely as possible.
Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” As we prepare for every mission in life, I pray that we are intentional with our relationship with our Savior. I pray that we are so close to Him that when He tells us to move, we don’t wait for further confirmation, but instead, we just go. Just like the disciples immediately moved when Jesus said to them “Follow Me” (Matt. 4:19), we don’t need to second guess Him. A comment from our ladies’ Bible study reminded me of this in one simple statement: “God is not looking for special people; He is looking for available people.”* Let us go into the coming days living intentionally for Christ.
Father,
Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to share my heart. I pray God that You would use this as a reminder for us all to be intentional with our relationship with You so that You can work through us. Father, we know that You can do amazing things without any of us, but You choose to allow us the blessing of being a part of your work. Thank you for that! Go before us and prepare the way, Lord. Help us to keep our eyes focused on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
