“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7
My family is presently in Los Angeles, CA; staying at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood. Coming from a small town in Alabama, this is way out of our comfort zone. We are here because our son auditioned in Nashville, TN earlier this year and was offered an opportunity with several others to train for a week with some of LA’s finest actors and actresses. He will audition for about 20 casting directors, talent agents, and managers with big dreams of becoming a paid actor and landing his first significant role.
When we were leaving the call back in Nashville, our liaison Jeff said, “my best advice is to stay grounded in faith and family.” We were so pleased to have met a Godly man at the beginning of our LA journey. We will never forget his words of advice. In the industry, there is a lot of travel and adventure. During our trip, we have found ourselves looking for churches, noticing crosses, and hoping to genuinely meet others who love the Lord as one way to stay grounded in our faith.
We came as a family per Jeff’s advice, and we are so glad we did. Our trip to LA has been a fantastic adventure, and we have wished for our other family and friends to be here. They would have loved it. The sights and sounds are unforgettable.
We have been surprised to find very few churches. When there is not an opportunity to go to church, you must be the church. I have always heard that we might be the only Bible some people ever read. I pray we have represented our Savior well on this journey. We are blessed to be grounded in both faith and family. It does take work and commitment, as does anything worthwhile in life.
I asked our son if he had met any Christian friends on this trip. He said, “not that I am aware of, but they know I am.” Knowing who you are in Christ is an essential first step in staying grounded in faith. To proclaim your love for Jesus in a setting that you are unaware of the circumstances is impressive for such a young man to do. He has planted his first seed.
It is beautiful to see our daughter also become a leader as her relationship with the Lord shines. She journals and reads her Bible every day and has a beautiful love of life. She is full of love for Jesus and shines with awe and wonder for life. People see that in her and see Jesus.
“…walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith…” We are determined to walk in our faith in Jesus, individually, and as a family. As I observe my precious children, I find myself “abounding in thanksgiving.”
“Stay grounded in faith and family.” Good advice when on a fun adventure or just living everyday life.
