Have you ever thought what it might be like to be married in your heart and mind -but single on paper? Hopefully you haven’t. But if your spouse has moved to heaven, or you have been through a divorce, you may know what I am talking about.
Forty-four years ago, I married my high school sweetheart. Three years ago, he moved to heaven without me. In 41 years of marriage on earth you would think I would have figured out what it takes to have a wonderful marriage! Honestly, I have learned a lot more about marriage in the last three years than in the previous 41.
Ephesians 4:1-3 instructs us to walk worthy, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.
If I could give you a bit of advice, I would tell you to hold your man close while you can. Don’t take him for granted. Appreciate what he does for you. Love him when he is not very loveable. Say “yes” when you really want to say “no” – or “I can’t” – or “I don’t have time” – or “I have a headache!” Laugh at his jokes. Don’t push him away. Give him grace!
Ephesians 4:2 says be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love.
I would tell you to relax with husband. Cry with him. Rejoice with Him. Worship with him. Pray with Him. Time is so precious. Share time with your husband and don’t allow distractions to take you away from him.
1 Peter 4:9 says above all; love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Most importantly, I encourage you to pray for your man. Pray that he will be strong in his walk with Jesus. Pray for him to have wisdom beyond his years. Pray that he will love God with all his being. Pray he will walk away from temptation. Pray he will have favor in all he does and that he is blessed. Honor him as the priest of your home. Believe in him. Praise him for his successes and love him deeply. Put God first and foremost in your marriage and He will create a beautiful marriage made from Heaven!
Marriage is a wonderful gift. Cherish every moment.
