“I will give you treasures of darkness, and of hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, that calls you by your name.”Isaiah 45:3
Have you ever been on a treasure hunt? I remember as a child we would go on treasure hunts and we would play as if we were discovering some exciting buried riches. We would have a “map” (truthfully it was just a colored on picture that had some lines and an X that we had made), but it was a guide to locate the riches we hoped to discover.
We would follow the map and walk down the path, where we would begin to dig deep down into the ground in hopes of finding a wonderful treasure. After we located a rock or two and an occasional bottle cap, we would celebrate as if we had discovered the mysteries of the world.
If only I could have that kind of enthusiasm again for the treasures that God has placed in my life these days! You see, life is full of moments where we are led down a path that seems dark and empty only to find there is nothing there. I believe we have to take out our spiritual shovels and begin to dig deep in order to find the treasure in that moment. God has hidden treasures in our darkest moments. It may not seem valuable at the time, but in order for us to discover those hidden jewels, we must ask Him to guide us.
In John 16:33, Jesus said “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace, In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.” See what a “treasure” He gives us!
He gives us PEACE in the dark, troubled places. A peace that cannot be discovered without going through trials.
I believe that no matter what you are facing in this life, God can reveal to you the riches that He has to offer you. Riches of His love, mercy, faithfulness, kindness, goodness, and joy. I could go on because that is only a small list of what He has to offer us.
All I know is without God it is impossible to make it through the darkness of this life. But with Him we can discover the endless treasures that He has.
If you are experiencing an extremely dark time in life, ask Him to help you find the buried treasure hidden in those moments.
Let’s pray: Heavenly Father, I know that this life is hard and I need you every moment. Please help me to find the treasures you have hidden for me in the great circumstances of my walk. Thank you for your faithfulness. Amen.
